Hi - does anyone have any information that may be helpful to my situation please? My Dad has recently passed away, the house will now pass half to myself and half my mum, who is currently in a care home, partially funded by a local authority in Wales. Probate is currently in place and once this is complete I intend to sell the property. This will then take Mam into the ‘self funding’ situation. Does anyone know when this would start? Is it from the date my Dad passed away? Or the date the probate is completed? Or when the house is actually sold? Or something else, so many grey areas and lack of places to find information. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Your Mam will not own the property until the will is proved by probate.
I would argue that a 12 week disregard should then be applied, after which she would be self funding until her assets reached the upper limit, currently £50k in Wales.
Why not ask the LA for a definitive answer?
