Hi last year I was diagnosed with heart failure and had Open Heart Surgery and now my memory is very bad!! I am very concerned about this and have told the GP and my Cardio Consultant. The consultant said it could b the machine that pumps your blood around when they have to stop your heart to operate??!! I then looked it up online and it looks like it happens a lot?!! As anybody came across this before? I am worried that it could b the start of Dementia though, and things are getting very difficult to cope with the home and esp paying bills as I have no support and live on my own!

Sorry to hear of your memory problems and also that you underwent a major operation last year. That must have been very stressful.

It may be that the effects on your memory are not long-lasting and will improve with time. Have your consultant and GP given you any indication about this? If not, can your GP refer you to a Memory specialist if only to set your mind at rest. They would give you various tests to see what might be the cause of and extent of your issues.

I know it must be very worrying if you live alone and only have yourself to rely on but try not to worry too much as it will make things worse. Easy to say, I know!

After the Bank Holiday, why not make an appointment with your GP to get a referral to a specialist just to check things out. At least you will then get some support.

Hope things go well for you.

Hello bird song and welcome to Talking Point my husband had a triple by pass and was told exactly the same he was showing signs of dementia before but he was much worse after the operation,

you should go to your GP and ask for some advice it could be something else causing your problems,

Best wishes Jeany x
