Hi all,
I am a 40 year old female and for the last year i have noticed a decline in my memory. I am constantly forgettimg words during sentances and its gettimg embarassing. I am
Also using wrong words, like today i was talking about care to my colleague and instead of using her name at the end of a sentance, i actually called her care. It was happening every now and then but now it’s happening several times day.
I also cannot remember any events without setting an alarm, they can be minor events like a hair appointment or major events like a hospital appointment. I just will not remember them if I haven’t set a reminder on my phone. I also used to be great with remembering names but now I meet people I haven’t seen in a while and I cannot remember there names but I will remember their name later in the day.

My GP keeps fobbing me off saying it’s just aging and stress but I don’t feel overly stressed. I’m not on any medications either. I find the more I stress and worry about my memory the worse it gets. Where can I go from here?

Hello,
It could be the menopause. This is really common, so many women get brain fog. Me and my friends often talk about this!

Thank you. I had bloods done last year and wasn’t in menopause yet but I’ll get them checked again. I’m really concerned about the forgetting words mid sentence and using the wrong words. As soon as I use the wrong word I know it straight away though so maybe not dementia but aphasia?

I think you need to see a different Doctor.
You can't just be fobbed off like that.
Stress has such an impact on body, causing you to worry more about it.
A different Dr hopefully will listen to your concerns and find an answer. X

Hi, I experienced severe memory loss and brain fog in peri menopuase and now I'm actually menopusal and through it all my facilities have been restored.

You may want to check out The Hormone Repair Manual by Lara Briden it came out too late for thr worst of my peri meopuse years but its a briliiant source of help and information.

Menopause evolves- its a bit like a decline- you may not have been last year, not maybe you are, Perimenopause- is the slope ( for want of a better word) down to full menopause, then its post menopause

it really does have a lot to answer for.
get checked again, and then take it dfurther with your GP if they are not helpful

Yes I agree, peri menopausal is often a long process. It can really mess with your mind.
I could look at an apple, know its an apple but not find the word! Very frustrating and I'd be embarrassed at times... especially at work.

So many friends myself included went to GP fearful about dementia, perimenopause in the run up to menopause just as difficult for many
I walked away from a well paid role in management at this stage in my life.
Try not to panic about dementia yet x

Peri menopause was also my first thought. At one point it was thought that it was just what happened to women but now there is so much more information and help out there. It might be worth seeing if your GP surgery have a doctor or nurse practitioner who specialises in this. In any case your concerns are real and do need to be addressed by a more understanding GP.

Other issues can be anaemia, diabetes and deafness (your ears could be blocked so I think you could a doctor to look at these) .
