I'm looking for things to do for my husband to do during the day, as he get very low. I was thinking of clubs of social clubs for his age group, but where do I look. I don't want day centres.

Hi, I to am looking for something for my hubby to do (he's 63) I would be keen to know if you find anything as we are only about 9 miles from you so would be great.

I've recently had flyers through for adult learning sessions at our local colleges - perhaps a watercolour or history course would be suitable? Or hands-on work at a city-farm type place?
Or, how about being a helper at a charity shop or day centre?
I am not joking (or mean offence) but perhaps a model in an art class - if he's willing to keep clothes on ofcourse!;)

just a thought but isn't there a wmc or somewhere where the old chaps meet for a dominoes or card session at lunchtimes near you, would give a bit of normality and a couple of shandies won't hurt either.

Where I am there are lunch clubs running from 11am - 3pm on certain days plus Alzheimer's Society does coffee clubs etc. Check out whether your area might have a Singing for the Brain group. Age UK sitting service would also take him out to a park or the like and for a while took him volunteering to the local city farm.
Why don't you want to consider Day Centres? They include a hot meal plus a multitude of activities and outings.

Hi Carolannrose

My mum is attending a place called belong. They specialise in dementia and provide experience days. These are like the new day care service.
It's has lots of different activities for people with memory problems. Me and my dad didn't want my mum attending a day care centre where she would just sit and do nothing so Belong is great. My mum is only 63 so we wanted her to have some stimulation and this was just the place. They are run by the CLS home group I think? and also provide sit in service and respite care if needed.
My mum does musical bingo, art and crafts, gardening, goes for walks to local park, exercises, movie days, have lunch altogether, singing and any other activity you can think of. They focus on taking part rather than an end product and what's more important is that my mum is happy going too.
Hope this helps
