I have been put on EBIXA for Alzheimers on third week of increasing strength EBIXA last increase will start Thurs.
Side effects are bad Nauseous, dizzy and generally feel dreadful especially when I stand up!
Meds are only one I can have so its either them or nowt!! I know we are all different in how we react to meds, but has anyone else had this reaction to this one? and if so did they eventually wear off and how long into taking them did it take??

Sorry this is all questions but just hope someone can help! Jeanie73

Hi Jeannie, my husband has recently started taking Ebixa (Memantine) and is on his second week of increasing dosage. He is also taking Aricept (Donepezil) which he has been on for two years. So far he has not spoken of or shown any side effects with Ebixa - but what I have noticed is an improvement over the last few days in his mood, motivation and ability. I do hope the side effects for you are short lived and wear off soon, because as far as my husband is concerned, I believe the drug is having a positive effect on him and it makes me very hopeful. Good luck.

Many thanks for reply, As I also have Fibromyalgia and it does tend to exaggerate side effects of many meds, will stick with it and live in hope, its good to know your husband is already feeling the benefit and hope it continues :)

For last few hours have felt as if top of my head was lifting off, only way I can describe it. But is easing a bit now.

All the best to you both, I start the 4th week on Thursday, wish me luck!!

Just an update for anyone interested in my battle taking EBIXA hope that's right name.

End of first months weekly increase from 5 to 20ml and on the whole side effects are easing considerably so have hopes it will help reducing effects of Alzheimer's, and at least slow it down as for me its the only med they can give me!

My Memory clinic staff are brilliant and i'm very lucky to have my daughter as my carer and I live in a ground floor. They suggest that I take full meds one day and half the next if that helps with side effects of EBIXA they want me to have the best chance possible!
Hope this info may help someone else, Jeanie xxxx

Hi Jeanie - so pleased to hear that the Memory clinic staff are brilliant, and that you have the support of your daughter. She is probably worth as much as a truckload of pills!

Seriously though - so sorry to hear you have been suffering from side-effects but just to say that my Mum has been on Ebixa (also called memantine) for over a year. She had previously been socialising less because she was becoming conscious of difficulties communicating and finding common words, and was getting frustrated about her language problem. The Ebixa/memantine totally resolved this. She was very lucky though and did not suffer any bad side effects.

Wishing you well and hope the side effects lessen and that the Ebixa really works for you.

Got this from Alzhiemrs site
The side-effects of memantine are less common and less severe than for the cholinesterase inhibitors. They include dizziness, headaches, tiredness, increased blood pressure and constipation.
It is important to discuss any side-effects with the doctor and/or the dispensing pharmacist.

hope it helps.x
