Hello

Could do with some help. My Dad is 60 and has Alzheimers, he is currently in a home which caters for older adults predominantly and is not able to meet his needs, particularly around activities and stimulation.

Does anyone know of a care home in Leicester or the surrounding area that caters for younger adults?

Thanks for your help

Beware the minefields!

Having just been through a scenario of finding a suitable nursing home for my Dad while my Mum has surgery I can only suggest that you are not fooled by the smart appearance of a care home and the smooth-talking of the manager.
This being a first for my family we foolishly selected a nursing home whose outward appearance was bright, light, decent furniture and wonderful grounds. It also charged top dollar, but was the only one available to fit in with Mum's urgent surgery.
Following 2 weeks of increasingly dismal and neglectful nursing care, Dad developed a serious urine infection and has been removed to another nursing home.
On reflection we should have spoken to relatives of the more permanent residents. We attended a carers meeting and it emerged that some had similar concerns as us.
Thankfully he is in a more shabby looking nursing home with nurses who care, do their job attentively and interact with residents and relatives.
If you can avoid rushing it, take your time when selecting a care home and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Wish I could help, but it is trial and error in finding the right type of home to suit......I saw one in Leicester where they had tonnes of activities listed, computer games, a garden and greenhouse etc, but everyone was too 'past it' to do anything with them.........:(
Any chance of speaking to your Dad's SW or care manager and discuss the level of abilities and where he might fit in? It really is important that he at least gets as much stimulation as possible whilst he still wants it....

Best of luck.

Have sent you a PM with details of a home for younger people to the East of Birmingham with a high reputation. Probably too far for you but they do attract people from quite a distance.

Good luck!
