Mum is totally incontinent now and I have put a bog standard mattress protector on her bed, topped by a doubled up sheet, then a fitted sheet and finally a kylie sheet. The kylie sheets are just the job. I've found that having the protector covered securely with quality bedding has reduced the crackling to nil! They have good absorbtion and combined with her incontinence products do keep her bed nice and fresh. I have 4 sheets and change them almost every day. I do put them in my Mum's washing machine on a lowish heat and all is OK. I put a top sheet under her duvet and so I rarely have to wash the cover other than to frshen up from time to time.
Waterproof Mattress Protectors??!!

It works. And cheap enough to throw away.
