How many more medical conditions...

It seems that as the weeks go on M.I.L. has more and more medical conditions. The latest is a skin complaint, which started off looking like prickly heat on her chest, which rapidly covered her all over in what looked like sunburn, then she started flaking. Not just small patches but from head to toe, had seen 3 specialist nurses, then a doctor came out last week. Decided it was a drug allergy, and took her off iron tablets and Lansoprazole, because they were the newest ones. She gas been having these since December! A week later she looks like a boiled lobster and the palms of her hands are just a mass of skin waiting to come off. The latest antihistamines are helping, thankfully. But new fluid retention medication isn't really having a great effect now.
She has Asthma, COPD, Moderate Heart Failure, this damn skin condition, High Blood Pressure, problem with her eye which we had to put 3 different types of drops in 11 times a day, have a guess what apparently she feels OK, but is upset because she doesn't know why she can't remember anything or words!
She is so cold internally all the time, had her sitting in the garden with winter coat and gloves on, thankfully she didn't need the blankets or hot water bottle, the temperature approximately 22 degrees
We were told beginning October she could pass on at anytime, I personally think she is trying to get me an Honourary Nursing Degree.
On a serious note has anyone else had experience of this skin complaint.

That sounds miserable for your M.I.L A very tentative thought in relation to the Lansoprazole. Was the doctor's suspicion, Subacute Cutaneous Lupus?

Have just had a look at some photos it doesn't look look like this. I think it was probably the sulphate ferrous. Just hoping her iron level doesn't plummet like it did before. She won't have a transfusion.

Nothing but total sympathy. That combination of ailments alone, such a challenge. And your M.I.L. at the heart of it. MY nightmare was with white blood count (my late mother) - another area which demanded daily vigil.

The 'tongue in cheek' Nursing Degree comment, is closer to truth methinks!

But seriously, the very best wishes in all of this. It must be in actual fact very frustrating and most certainly exhausting.

Thank you. M.I.L. Took a nose dive out the back door Saturday evening, we had gone from her view for 10 minutes, whilst we were sorting something in the garden, and she wanted to find us. to add to her list of ailments, she is now sporting a 1.5 inch gash plus graze above her eye, and a black eye. so a trip to A&E on the advice for 111 service. she didn't even remember the trip to hospital Sunday morning, and now keeps rubbing the wound saying, I think I must have bumped by head! Think I need a human version, of the animal "lampshade" to try and stop her touching it.

My Mum has a similar itchy rash on her neck and chest. Initially it was treated with E45 anti itch cream and antihistamine which helps a bit and then all her skin became hyper sensitive and itchy and when her care put the shower in her she was even worse. Dr has decided it might be a side effect of the Donepezil which has been taking for three years so he has stopped that and given her a different cream and it seems to be improving. Then her arthritic knee became so bad she couldn’t walk so Dr out again with different pain killers. There always seems to be something. Mum is towards the end of mid stage we think.

I I know that perhaps you are able to find a degree of humour, sometimes, in all of this and for all the right reasons, else go under. But overall, a very demanding situation quite clearly. No real consolation this, but my mother's late sister struggled through Alzheimer's, some horrid skin conditions and whatever else cropped up, to compound the issue - and lived to see her 107th birthday. Your MIL is seemingly blessed with a similar constitution!

It wasn't an old thread so please don't apologise. m.i.l isn't on Donepezil, but totally agree about after showering. I think it's affect of her systems shutting down. As one area gets better then another flares up more and so the cycle goes on.
