Hi Marnie. Glad you're feeling a wee bit better and back with us!
Your day out with your Mum sounds lovely - a little memory to treasure.
I've been out in the garden all afternoon today too.

JP I think how you feel is totally understandable. I've turned into a "home bird" too.

Worrier - fingers crossed that your Dad starts to improve soon. I'm so glad you're getting less disturbed nights now.

We have a bottle of rose on the go, cheers x

Jorgie, wine downed (in wise moderation :D ). On the non alcoholic water now.

Hope you've a restful night.xxx

Marnie, good to hear you are both on the mend, it takes time, 'flu is a dose to recover from. What a beautiful moment with your mum today. So poignant and something to cherish.

Worrier, glad you dad is sleeping better, hope you are too. You're still involved with an intense level of care daily. Your poor dad is going through a lot as are you.

Hi Pollytickle, lovely name! Welcome. Hope you find this forum as great as I do.
I've no watertight answers to your question. Different things work at different times. Agreeing, going along with mum, distracting, deflecting and love lies etc. Equally those things don't work at all in easing her anxiety at other times.

Having a UTI or an infection of any kind makes mum's anxiety worse (unless she feels sick she is usually calmer then). Medication (tweaked and monitored) has helped somewhat. Hope you continue reading and posting. So many here have a wealth of experience to share and support to offer.

Hope everyone else us ok. HD, Lavender, rosy and all else who post here.

Hugs and g'night. X

Thanks for the warm welcome...muchly appreciated :)

Having said that, my peculiar sense of humour has been a little demure so consider yourselves lucky you have been spared pathetic puns & wacky wordsmithing for a little while longer :p Definitely a fully paid up member of the Laugh Before You Self Destruct club, where Life's Bartender works hard to keep your glass half full :D

Now Laddies & Gentilefolk, if you'll excuse me... I must away to my slumbers; please help yourselves to my share of the wine (prefer a wee dram or a scrumpy meself ;) ) Got the room right at the back so I shouldn't be bothered by the noise if you decide to party on

Nite-nite then....

Spoke too soon
1.30am wake up saying he's not been fed for days
Get him back to bed eventually then up at 5am then I am enroute to work and get a call from careline as his alarms gone off. He's not answering the say .... how many times do I need to explain
They are sending someone out or getting the carers in earlier but can't give me any update after that
So now waiting to see if I need to head home again.

Evening all. Mum's section was amended to a Section 3 as from today. At least I know she is safe and secure now until the consultant is certain he has the optimum level of medication for her.

The social worker asked mum questions. I had a brief word with the her afterwards, she said mum couldn't answer any of the questions correctly. She said mum had no idea where she was, thought she was 20 years old and has no idea who I am. This isn't news and I don't really understand the relevance, but I guess it's all part of the process.

I've been full of cold over the weekend. It feels like I've hardly been free of colds since Christmas. My immune system seems non existent. The consultant said I can look at homes to see which I might prefer once mum is ready to be discharged, but I've no idea how far that is off as yet. X

Thank you Lady A. I've some good quality multi vitamins and a full fruit bowl. I need to give myself a boost before I'm not fit for anything. X

Must be a Monday  but hope your day has improved - if only by a bit - as it has gone on.

It's been quite exciting here after a broken night to change the bed I only put fresh sheets on yesterday  ...it's been like Dec 25th :D If there's one thing I enjoy it's spending other people's money on their behalf & the bulk of the order was delivered today with things to make Life a little easier for both Mum & I. She now has a few nightdresses with buttons all down the front so no more struggling to get the soiled one off over her head, & some washable covers for the sofa etc. They're good! Bit like a plastic backed picnic rug but cushion sized, came in about six colour choices & really good price.

She has had one of those lamps that work by touch for oohhmmmm ... must be 20-odd years  by her bed, so she didn't have to fiddle around trying to find a switch, but it was beginning to play up - not turn off, that kind of thing - so a new one also arrived. It's a sturdier base too & again, a bargain, but they are so handy especially with the ole brain playing silly beggars :p

Mum is also now on both the District Nurses & Social Services data-bases; I must have spoken to every person in both our district & county councils as they batted my enquiries back & forth like a championship ping pong contest in the past few weeks  Don't know why I expected anything less cuz I've had dealings with them before
:mad::mad::mad:

So on reflection I guess today was more up than down

Sounds like a satisfying day, pollytickle. Do you have Kylie sheets on the bed too? I found putting them lengthwise under my husband worked best with one of the"wings" under his feet, and the other under his pillow. And of course, the important thing to remember when washing Kylie sheets and the chair protectors is not to use fabric conditioner. It stops them from absorbing liquid, making them useless! You have to give them another couple of washes to get rid of the conditioner before they are fully absorbant again!

That's good news she has gone onto a Section 3. If you don't know it means she then leaves hospital on s117 funding which means CH of whatever sort is paid for. From what I've seen on the she will likely need a specialist dementia home.

Have you tried manuka honey to boost your immune system. And I take echinacea when I have a cold. Had one for 4 weeks now which I caught in work so a lot of it going round.

Good news Lavender at least now you know your Mum will be in safe hands and well looked after.
As for yourself you sound really run down, these colds that have been going around seem to take the stuffing out of you.Thankfully I've managed to avoid it.Have you tried a hot toddy that always works for me :) I do think your body reacts when you suddenly stop 24/7 caring and then enter into the unknown the mental strain is enormous. Please try and look after yourself Sending (hugs)x
