Dear Collywobbles, you make a good point about training on equipment. I haven’t yet agreed to meet up with anyone but food for thought.

Thank you for your msg.

Thank you all for your support, it rmeans a lot.

Update: Mum is still in the hospital. Something magical happened today though and MyMum’sDaughter - your msg really resonated with me, thank you. 🙏

Well, today I was sent a link and it was to a care home that does temp respite and logistically it’s perfect between Mum’s place and mine and the care manager deals with patients from the two boroughs mum lives on the borders of.

All three staff I spoke with on the phone today were compassionate, kind and helpful but not only that, they were reassuring too.

They take on dementia patients and specialise in dementia and mental health their reviews are great include the CQC and 5/5 food hygiene rating and they have one space left!

I’m meeting with the care manager tomorrow after work and I’ve written to the hospital to say I’m interested in temp respite interim package but that I won’t yet confirm my answer they confirm that they can arrange patient transport from hospital to said nursing home, that they can also agree in addition, to installation of equipment at mums own home ahead of any discharge back from care home to own home and what the prices are for hospital package re carers 4 x daily (they can’t do overnight or evenings).

The ad hoc agency we ususally use are still great and have offered to help overnight and daytime but I’ve calculated that if we did temp respite in mums own home - the money will run very low in less than 3 months whereas the care home is cheaper.

My feeling now is that the respite home would be a good temp test to see how mum gets on with mobility, eating and drinking and interacting with others and then whether she comes home or stays as a permanent resident if they have room.

I won’t lie, if we had to sell her home I’ve no experience of this and would find it very overwhelming but other loved one is trying to get me to think long term but as this is an interim package that’s my feeling for now.

Pls keep your fingers crossed for me for this space that’s left, they sound perfect!
