If the ethernet was no faster something else is wrong, so forget about the aerial for the time being (at any rate the signal booster would probably not have helped if the laptop aerial was disconnected)
Have you tried switching the router off, leaving it off for two minutes, and switching it back on again or perhaps you switch off over night at any rate ?
Have you connected any new phones or plugged existing phones into different sockets?
