Mums mixed dementia has been a gradual decline in cognitive ability and memory. However it's her poor mobility which is causing more issues now. She's used the same walking aid for about a year and is not safe to walk without it. Problem now is she's forgetting to use it. Finding herself stuck somewhere without it. The house is small and on same level but not space for multiple walking aids.

She just back from a few days in hospital after 3 falls linked to low sodium. So she's getting back to routines with 4 care visits a day up from three. So understandable that she's more muddled than normal.

Any ideas to help?

Hello @craftymum and welcome to the Dementia Support Forum. I am sorry to read about your mum’s recent falls but it is good that she is back home with extra support.

Would your mum be able to read a note reminding her that she needs to use the walking aid, say on the wall next to the aid or in another prominent place. Written prompts sometimes work for people with dementia but eventually even those get ignored.

Hopefully one of our members who has had experience of this will come along with advice.
