I cannot believe how quickly my mum has deteriorated in the last month, she has heart failure, but her dementia or alzheimers as it seems worse than dementia has become a real problem. I cannot have a
conversation with her without it being a person in her life who has now passed on. Last night she spent 20 minutes shaking a sweetener container on every page of a magazine as though it were salt. She gave me the
telephone and told me to spread it everywhere! I am at a loss to help her. Does anybody have any suggestions.

Hello @JanieP60 and welcome. I am wondering if your mum has seen her doctor recently? Any kind of illness or infection can cause absolute havoc in a person with dementia, making their symptoms of confusion etc very much worse. Any sudden change needs checking. Of course, depending on the severity of your mum's heart failure, that may be having an impact too.

hello @JanieP60
and welcome from me too
so sorry to read of your concerns for your mum
definitely have her checked for a UTI, as LadyA suggests - if one is present, antibiotics will help
have you come across compassionate communication, it helped me begin to see how things are for my dad
