Hi,
I am new to this site so this may have been asked before but I couldn't find it amongst the huge about if info that is on here.
So....my 92 year old mother has Alzheimer's and has had for the past 7 years, I live 480 miles away and visit as and when I can. She is vulnerable to cold calling on the telephone as well,as mail shots from companies she has used in the past. She is on both the telephone and mail preference system but that doesn't seem to stop various bits coming through and she ends up taking out policies she doesn't need and subscriptions. Can anyone suggest something I can set up in her phone that she wouldn't have to do anything to but would help filter out unwanted calls. Any recommendations will be gratefully received.
Thanks in anticipation.

There are systems you can buy like true call that filters and blocks phone calls, and BT have a system too, but first, check what kind of phone she has. I have a bog standard Siemens phone that's years old but it has a do not disturb function. All you have to do there is programme in the phone numbers you do want her to hear, like family and friends, then put them all together in one group and set the phone on silent for the whole day, with only that group of numbers allowed to get through. The other numbers of sales callers etc can still ring but she simply won't hear them. It's brilliant, and they do give up after a while as well.

Thanks Beate,
Mum has a BT phone which we got her last year. Your Siemens system sounds great and easy too. Will check hers out when with her next week.

trueCall http://www.truecall.co.uk/ has already been mentioned; not very cheap, but I would recommend it and I've seen other posters on here who do, too. (BT also markets phones 'powered by trueCall'.)

You plug the existing phone into it; if you can put it out of sight, your mother needn't even know it's there. You can configure it so that approved numbers get straight through and other callers can't.
