Hi all
New to this forum.
My dad has Alzheimer's and vascular dementia and his mobility is worsening.

Kind of getting stuck in one place. Trying to move legs. But not walking forwards.

Anyone else seen this issue?
Thank you

Hello @sazza.st and welcome, this is a friendly and helpful place so it's good that you've found us. Sorry to hear about your dad and his mobility problems. Mobility does tend to reduce as dementia progresses, my mum has late stage Alzheimer's and is no longer able to walk but she did have a stage where it almost seemed as if she had forgotten how to walk, similar to what you are describing. It's hard to see, and if your dad lives at home it's a good idea to ask for an Occupational Therapy (OT) assessment as they will be able to visit your dad and look at what type of aids and adjustments might help. People here are happy to offer advice and help when they can so others may be along with more suggestions for you.

Yes. This symptom is called dyskinesia. It is very common in Parkinson’s patients for example. Try waiting patiently for a few seconds and then encourage movement again. It’s as though messages to the brain get stuck.
It goes without saying the risk of falls increase now.
How far into your Dementia journey are you?
