Hi my mum was diagnosed with Alzheimers 3 months ago she is 70yr old .Since her diagnosis things have got alot worse she has been prescribed donaprezil. Her hallucinations have got so bad that she is scared and gets upset saying a family lives at the bottom of the garden and the lady shouts at her .Does anybody know If this is an effect from the medication and is there anything we can do to stop it as its heartbreaking watching her go through this .As a family we have decided not to tell my mum she has Alzheimers as she used to be a carer for others with this horrible illness any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Hi @donamc.

My Mum was on donepezil for a bit but we gave up. At the time we thought it was the struggles Dad had prompting it but maybe it was the drug itself. That put me off Mum being on any dementia drugs at all but now she is in middle stage she is on memantine and it's helped a lot.

You could try the Admiral Nurses phone line to talk about meds. They are specialist dementia nurses.

By the way, that sounds horrible for her and those around her re the hallucinations.
