I'm taking care of a family member with dementia. He has both vascular and frontal lobe dementia. His dementia has been gradually worsening over the years. He's now in the very last stage and is showing signs of transitioning to the afterlife. We don't expect him to live long and are currently preparing for his passing. I've seen his memory gradually fade over the years. Currently, he's certain about one thing only--his name--and he's very certain of it. I find that interesting. He's not certain of anything else, such as how old he is, whether or not he has sons and daughers, his location, or the time of day. I've never taken care of a person with dementia before. Is it possible for a person with dementia to not remember their own name?
