Hi all,

The Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists have recently gotten in touch about a project they're doing in partnership with the charity Communication Matters, the Stroke Association, the MND Association and others to develop a symbol for communication access in the UK.

This would be similar to the more widely known disability access symbols, such as the wheelchair access symbol and the visual and hearing impaired symbols.

As there is no universal symbol for communication access in the UK, their aim is to have a symbol in the UK for communication access with underpinning standards which will become as nationally recognised as these symbols. If an organisation displays this symbol, it will show they are meeting defined standards, and that people with a communication difficulty are welcome and will be treated with dignity and respect.

They previously ran a consultation in early 2017 that allowed them to identify concepts and standards that would underpin the symbol, and are now looking - via the below survey - to define the concept and standards upon which they develop the symbol.

As this symbol is being designed for anyone that might have a communication difficulty, including people with dementia, they'd really appreciate your feedback.

Please go ahead and fill in the survey below if you'd like to help.

Thanks everyone :)
