Just to clarify for
@Sarahjdh , the name "Attendance Allowance" is slightly misleading. It is awarded to the person who is disabled if they are pensionable age. If you are sick before that age you can claim Disability Living Allowance (now Personal Independence Payment) and you will continue to receive it after you pass pensionable age. Neither of these apply if you are in a care home and LA assisted.
The only payment a carer can receive is Carer's Allowance and this is only if they are not receiving another benefit such as a state pension. Of course, your father cannot now claim this.
If your Dad is disabled, he can claim either PIP or AA, depending on his age.
