I noticed Admiral Nurses being mentioned on a few posts lately and had a google because I'd never heard of them before.

Now I know they are specialist dementia nurses - I got quite excited as I thought how useful that sounded. Now bit disappointed to find that there isn't a single one in south east London (we are in Croydon) - there are only 10 shown for the rest of London - all north of the river and one in west London. The rest of the country seems equally poorly catered for as well.

Is this really the case? Seems a tiny number compared to the size of the problem. Is there anything we can do to campaign for more?

Am sad to say they are few and far between.
being a charity I assume its down to funding

They do have a national helpline though

I dont know about know about now, but when mum was alive they only had around 74 Nurses

For those that dont know about them, Admiral Nurses are not hands on, but offer a wealth of advice, info , support and gave me a lot of help in my fight to get the right equipment for my mum,

here is a link to Admiral Nurses

There are none in Scotland. I once emailed their helpline though and got a helpful response.

i was very lucky to find one in the small town I am in! :) She saw me and talked to me about the problems I was having with my mum, I had originally thought that they were nurses who nursed dementia patients, but its more a support thing. The woman I saw was great though, I blubbed all over her.:D

I had thought the same thing after looking at the map on their website. However, having talked to people on their helpline I have found that there is an Admiral nurse for the Sutton area so I would definately phone and check. Good luck

I live in Chiswick, west london, and like you we can't receive support from them either. However, I have reached times of really struggling and have emailed them explaining that I just can't go on with things the way that they are - they were so helpful with their reply. So although you can't benefit from them properly, do email them when you need to - they are brilliant
