Coming off meds

Hi,
just wondered if anyone else has been in the same situation. My mum is 67 and in the late stage of dementia, we have passed the very aggressive and violent stage and mum is now in a world of her own and sleeping for most of the time. When she was aggressive she was put on Trifluoperazine and Amitriptyline to try and calm her down, we have just had a visit from the specialist who wants to take her off these meds and he says she may get more responsive, I pray this happens and was hoping this has happened to anyone out there who may be able to help.
Thanks Jackie

Hello Jackie

My husband is not at your mother`s stage yet but he has been taking Amisulpride another antipsychotic. He too has calmed down from the aggressive stage.
I have only reduced his medication by 25% and he is definitely more active.
I know it is wrong to compare but I will keep my fingers crossed for your mother. xx

My mum has vascular dementia and she has also got past the agressive, anxious, and depressed phase of this illness or at least her behaviour and responses indicate this. She too has been slowly taken off medication. She has responded well and is more alert although I think she can still tire easlily but there is improvement.

I hope you find the same, thinking of you.
