Gigi, GrannieG and anyone else ... I am sure you might recognise I am 'doing what I do' to try to make sense of 'doing what I did' or 'have seen' ...(if that makes sense?)

I am very concerned how down GrannieG sounds - been there - still go there - (in different circumstances) ..... everything is completely hopeless .... so with that in mind... here are two more questions ..... and more personal to Dr Nori Graham but may prove insightful if they can be posed?:

What made you decide to specliaise in Old Age Psychiatry?

What do you find most rewarding about your role given we are currently faced with a terminal disease with apparently no hope of cure?

I would like to ask another question.

My mother sleep a lot, I have read on TP so does other people with dementia sleep a lot.
I would like to know please is it down to motivation?
If not what is it down to?

If late stages of medication called Exbiza is not working any more for the person , are they other complication that can happen as in a stroke if the person was to come of that medication?

Our mantra `when you have seen one person with Alzheimers you have seen one person with Alzheimers

If that mantra was true.

( This question is still to Dr. Nori Graham )

Why do so many people with a Demetria share the same of so many symptoms?

It is not that we are not interested Bruce, But tired

Sick and tired.
I am.
No one cares about Ron, he is 85 this year.
I care, I am only 61.

My question is
Why do all the consultant's we see want to put Ron on tablet's. They see him for a few second's, and think they have a cure.
Live with him for a week, then see if you can help.
One tablet, does not fit all.

Some people with dementia are aware of their disease, and are frightened by their deterioration. Others simply accept, and seem unaware of any changes.

Some people lose empathy with their carers, however thoughtful they have been before. Others are concerned that their carer is suffering, and are also sensitive to outside events.

I recognise that these differences depend on the area of the brain affected, but which areas control awareness and emotion, and are the differences associated with any particular forms of dementia?

Question
Is there any known reason for periods of acute restlessness to manifest without warning?
Would Type 11 Diabetes have an effect on periods of acute restlessness?

I have read that high cholesterol level can affect a person state of mind making them more confused if they have a dementia. Is this true?

Sorry, this is a horrible question, but it has been plaguing me ....

How important are post mortems and the donation of brain tissue to research?

Closing the question list tomorrow

We're closing the list of questions tomorrow so if anyone has a question they wanted to propose to be put to Nori, please do so now.

Thanks to all who have suggested questions so far. :)

Would hate to end on my last negative note, sorry ... so my last ......

How much further do you believe we are near 'cure' than when you first began your own career? What do believe would make the most difference in ever achieving that breakthrough? (e.g. awareness, public funding, inspiration and/or incentives for medical students to specialise as you have done? etc)

Which leads to: How best can carers or ex-carers with limited or little medical knowledge help to motivate and achieve that end?

Question about Aricept

Dr Nori
Question is about how the benefits of Aricept (where there are some) are likely to wane over time and, when stopped, is there often a big deterioration observed with the chemical prop taken away?
Many thanks.
