My Mum is sleeping most of the time. I say she is awake 3hrs a day in different parts of the day and night. Is this normal. She is in her 6th year of this nightmare. She is not mobile anymore and we are caring for her at home. I'm finding it difficult to let her be in this state. Has anyone been through this stage and can advise what to do.

Regards Valk:(

Just my experiences and a few links

Hi Valk,

My dad sleeps a lot of the time now and there have been a few discussions about this. It could also be a sign of another problem so best to also check with a GP.

I've dug out a couple of links on other threads that may help.

Unfortuntalely, as the illness progresses my dad has become more sleepy. He is sometimes very difficult to wake.

Kind Regards
Craig

We are in the same situation. Mum sleeps nearly all the time now (entering into her 6th year of AZ too). When I go to visit I try my best to kindly wake her to no avail, within seconds she drifts off again. She even fell to sleep at the Christmas Dinner table. I have tried different approaches but nothing is working. Sorry I can't give any proper advice but you are not alone in this I feel exactly the same.

My mum is also in her 6th year, she did go through a phase just over a year ago where she was sleeping most of the time though this was down to her medication which was adjusted by the specialist and the day time sleeping has more or less stopped now though the odd time while watching tv she might nod off for a little sleep. As Craig said you should definitely mention it to her GP or specialist.

Thanks for your help

Thank you for the replies. We did go to Mum's GP and she had blood tests and everthing seemed ok. The GP say's her body is shutting down. She had a slight stroke in December that changed everything really. The biggest problem is her teeth. We can't get a dentist to take some of her teeth out, we keep getting pushed from pillar to post and nobody wants to do anything. She is permanantley on antibiotics for gum infections. Don't know what else to do really, but my anger is stressing me out terribly.

Regards
Valk
