Hello all,

I am writing in reference to my and my Husbands' Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment claims. At current, my Husband is being tested for Dementia as he is suffering with severe memory concerns. My Husband has visited the Memory Clinic and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service for assessments. These assessments; combined with brain scans are so far inconclusive. My Husband has been denied Personal Independence Payment, and as a result the financial situation has dramatically taken a turn for the worst. We are experiencing the following (which my Husband is doing):

1. He puts clothing, copious amounts of toilet paper, cardboard down the toilet which causes it to block. This has been partly rectified by putting a lock on the door (much to his frustration). The toilet then floods the ceiling in the kitchen and hall areas.
2. He floods the bathroom sink if given opportunity to do so. This then leads to water coming through the kitchen ceiling. Again, we have fitted a lock to the bathroom (it should be noted that the toilet and the bath and sink are in separate rooms).
3. He floods the kitchen, hall and lounge areas. This has been achieved by covering the plughole with a drinking glass or mug etc. He then turns the tap on full (hot and cold) and walks away. This is usually occurring between the hours of 00:00 and 04:00.
4. He is obsessive with cleaning and can vacuum for example 3 or more times a day in the same areas.
5. He continuously feeds the dogs, parrot and parakeet throwing away any food that hasn't been consumed within a couple of hours. We have tried hiding the dog food from him which he finds every time when he 'snoops' around. If he cannot find any dog food; he then feeds them human food i.e. Sausage Rolls or Pork Pies.
6. He is insistent on returning to work and recommence driving.
7. He has lost 3 sets of keys for a car that is only 4 years old (it has been owned by the family for under a year).
8. We are unable to obtain house insurance due to the repetitive nature of the flooding etc.
9. He becomes aggressive when frustrated i.e. punching doors and windows, slamming doors and walking out.

We have really hit a rut now with no financial support from charities etc. This has meant that my Daughter and her Husband have had to financially support the household. We are unsure of where to turn to as we are at serious risk of losing our mortgaged home imminently. We have contacted Citizens Advice Bureau, Turn2Us, StepChange, Money Advice Service and Debt Management. All of which have been unsuccessful in trying to help us.

Good grief - you are having an awful time by the sounds of it.

Anyway welcome to the forum.

You mentioned who you had corntacted but I don’t see that you mention your local authority social services department. Because that would be my first port of call. Have you done that?

Thank you for your reply Jennifer. We shall contact Social Services tomorrow (18/02/2019). This could be the step to continue a (what seems) never ending pursuit. We have received a letter from the specialist that completed the last assessment. This must have been delivered yesterday (16/02/2019). The recommendation is to be referred to Dementia Specialists and continue as having Dementia (even though it has not been diagnosed). We have also been advised to get in contact with carer support services as a family.

Many Thanks
