We have recently found out that my OH has AZ, so I have been reading everything I can find on the subject. There is a book called "Contented Dementia" by Oliver James, which I found very sensible, helpful and comforting. It describes a a system called Specialised Early Care for Alzheimers (SPECAL) which is being rolled out from the SPECAL Centre, Sheep street, Burford, OX18 4LS. If anyone has time to read it, or even part of it, I'm sure you will find it a revelation. All carers should read it, even (or especially) the ones who only pop in occasionally.

Well done, Early Girlie. An excellent document. I think this should be stickered somewhere for easy access. Moderators - is this possible? Thank you!

Just noticed this thread. Said to me recently - oh I know just how you feel. My MIL had Alzheimer's, we couldn't help as she lived 100 plus miles away but her daughter lived really close so it only took her two hours each morning and each night to care for her. So how exactly do you know how I feel or for that matter how you SIL coped with 4 hours per day, every day. Oh and - you made the right decision putting your husband in a care home.Really I will never know so how do they know?
