Hi all

Is it possible to change a DWP deputyship from one person to another?

I am my mam's Deputy and am wondering if this can be transferred to my dad instead.

I know deputyship was transferred when the Deputy passed away.
The relatives said it cost a lot of money. This was a few years ago.

Please consider the risks in passing deputyship to an older person.
A gent I last saw about mid 2013 in his late 70's appeared ok to me at the time I saw him.
I have heard he is now in care with dementia.

No problem changing, just complete a form B56 from the DWP. As there is no charge for completing the first form can't see there being a charge for the second.

Just to clarify, you are talking about DWP appointship and not COP deputyship?

DWP - as has been said no real problem and free.

COP - a lot of form filling and expense.

You can't have two appointees, so just ring up the DWP and say you want to change.
They will want to interview your dad.

Ah, it's appointeeship. That is easy to change, in fact pretty much everything about appointeeship is straightforward and easy to set up. I think it's just a case of your dad applying to become an appointee for your mum, and as only one person can be, then the new application would supercede the old one.

Deputyship is much more complicated and expensive. I'd assume that the existing deputy would have to in essence resign and then a new one apply for it again.
