Hi @rainbowcat

I’m not sure how a drip wouId work as she is not bed bound. She’s not going to think to unhook something & walking round with a bag on a hook thingy (no idea what one of those is called), she’d use it as a crutch or ignore it & have it trailing after her

I have visions of one stroppy Mum dragging a metal (contraception - auto corrected lol had to leave that in as I lol’d) contraption & getting very cross as it gets caught across a doorway.

I’ll take a laugh anywhere I can

I did chuckle at all this post - and LOL at "metal contraception" :D

Hi @Prudence9

Don’t talk to me about that excuse for a GP I’m livid with him. Mind you, the DN who requested he review Mum last week isn’t too happy either. I think the DN & Hospice team are trying, but they need theGP to change prescriptions etc

Your time with your Mum sounds lovely. Some nights I’ve sat on the stool by her bed, just holding her hand. I’ve had to catch it first as it’s flailing about, but she calms quickly & then sleeps. Im so pleased she trusts me

Yes, Pooch is very cute. He adores Mum & she him. He looks so sad right now & it’s heartbreaking the way he walks around with his teddy crying.

I need those hugs tonight. I feel like a damp or soggy dishcloth

Oh my golly gosh :p

We have lift off :D

Last nights Hospice nurse phoned to see how things were. At the time, fine. An hour later, mums grabbed more water & guzzled, with the inevitable result of her vomiting :( That’s it. I’m done. I phone & leave a message. By the time we’ve cleaned Mum up & got her back to bed, I’ve had a call back ... “it’s ok Sam, we are on our way”

Nurse told Mum she was making an executive decision & she is giving her a pump with anti nausea & pain killers :D I could have kissed her (but she’s not my type :rolleyes:).

No argument from Mum. She just agreed. So she’s now hooked up & getting the meds

I’m doing the can can :D Hoopla hoops & Pom Pom dancing

Yay for strong ladies fighting GP’s :p

Hurrah! I am so glad that someone is batting (and battling) on your behalf Sam! I am glad the syringe driver is in situ and really hope that it helps your mum feel generally 'better'.

You shouldn't have to be fighting the GP and the system at a time like this  It makes an already difficult time so much harder :( I remember the fight we had to get a syringe driver and I'm sure it was made worse because we had no specialised Palliative Care team. At least so seem to have found a DN who is on the ball - I think you should kidnap her and keep her in the cupboard under the stairs until you need her again!

I hope you are able to snatch some sleep tonight.

((((((hugs)))))) for you and Pooch.

Oh thank goodness for the no nonsense hospice nurse ...it had all gone on far too long for you both...your mum probably feels too weak now to argue with her after so much vomiting...and thank goodness your mum can now be made properly comfortable and you can finally get some sleep.

No, no, I wasn't worried from something you said, that I'd upset you, just generally concerned. No need for you to apologize. Mea culpa!!!

I hope you get the help and support you need.

Lol for misunderstandings  Hugs, hugs, glorious hugs ... nothing quite like em for soothing the blood :D

I’m working on getting it sorted :p

Hi @rosy18

Hospice nurse checking the DN’s are coming every day .... err I don’t think so .... she was not amused. She’s going to check with them tomorrow. There’s no joined up thinking happening :( I just want to throw in the towel. I told Hospice nurse, when ASC said no CHC means no night sitter I was “this” close to telling them the duty of care lies with you ...not me

Me thinks chocolate fireguard GP is going to be getting a rocket somewhere less than pleasant. I’ll happily light the fuse

I just want some sleep. The hospital wanted to keep Mum in a few more days, they were talking of discharge to a hospice. Surely that wouId have been free. Why is it so hard to get a tiny bit of help. I’m doing the work. I’m saving the NHS several thousand a week. I’m asking for 2 or 3 nights, IRO £250 a week.

CHC is being fast tracked tomorrow. Fast track means expected within 6 weeks :( That’s more information I don’t really want to have learnt :(

Taking hugs to stop the tears of frustration. Thank you o_O

Thinking of you Sam and praying that now you will be able to grab some sleep and your Mum will get some relief from the nausea and pain. What a great DN but how awful that the CHC has to still go through a process at this stage, it just makes me want to scream You are doing so well Sam dealing with all of these set backs You're doing such an amazing job taking such good care of your Mum Warm and heart felt (((hugs)))being sent for you your Mum and of course pooch xxx

Hi @love.dad.but..

I think I’ll find out the cost tomorrow. I’m also trying to think of anyone who might “help me out” lol. I really need some sleep. 18-20 hour days are not doing me any good.

I’m not prepared to make medical decisions. I’m phoning to check. Mum queries what I’m giving her. Although her decline means I probably do know more than her now. It’s very sad

Lol @Amy in the US

The chocolate teapot is about to have 2 DN’s & a Hospice nurse unleashed on him. Add one ASC liaison, who will be jumping up & down as apparently he should have applied for CHC nearly 2 weeks ago, when he said she was EoL.

As my dad used to say, the soft & claggy stuff rolls downhill, so everyone is going to be looking to find the first person who should have started the ball rolling ... drum roll please ... Mr Chocolate Teapot, please stand up

I don’t feel at all sorry for him. I asked for a review a year ago??? He refused saying there was no point. Now a DN has asked for a review ... he refused .. no point  I see a pattern

Lol. Any excuse to get to the UK @Amy in the US  I’m that emotional I cried seeing that  I’m sure I’ll be back to my sarcastic self by morning  In the meantime, I’m pinching all the hugs, just for me :D

Fast track CHC can be through in 48 hours in very urgent cases...my understanding and from signing the fast track form CCG cannot dispute at the stage the information and prognosis of GP/Nurse etc and care should be immediately approved ...dad's didn't come through in time he died 2 days after the form was completed. Yes hospice care should be free. If I lived closer I would happily come and help get you some sleep
