Don't know what you are going to do Hazel, but I'd hate to be on the receiving end of it.

As you so correctly say, it is our love for the ones we look after that drives us on.

Love to you both,

That's a frightening thought Hazel. You getting stroppy. I'm quivering in my shoes just thinking about it.

Will I need to contact the local constabulary in case of an altercation? Fisticuffs, even?

I do hope that John recovers quickly. These must be very worrying times for you.

Hi Hazel

I get really frustated when I go to the Doctors, and see someone different every time (not that I go very often), so your frustation at John not being seen by his own doctor is very understandable. You'd think that in serious cases, they would make the effort:(

Take care of yourself

Dear Hazel,

While I've "been absent" I've been wondering how you and John are doing. Sorry for this recent trouble, it's so annoying when you have to see a different doctor, you get stroppy, my dear, the doctor deserves it.

The charge nurse is as fed up as I am. I think we're going to have to get stroppy

I don't perceive it as stroppy

I was told on a course that was organized by my local PCT , Its also a national course, that we have every right to challenge the doctor, social worker etc if we have any concerns, that we don't agree on

So if you can challenge them with a positive attitude they listen to you more . It work with my doctor he did listen to me, got what I wanted for mum .

So you Go Hazel challenge then :)

Thanks, folks.

I don't think we can do anything now till John has finished this new course of antibiotics. That's why the CN is so mad -- he was hoping to talk to the GP after the present one finishes, but there's no way the GP will come out in the middle of a course, unless it's an emergency -- and in that case, I probably wouldn't be there.

I plan to let the CN do most of the talking, as one professional to another (since I know he's on my side:)), but I want to give my point of view too. (Could they stop me?)

Hopefully no fisticuffs or boxing gloves, and sadly I threw away my cane!:D

Yes, how are John's heels? My mother is now having a similar problem - we think she's simply rubbing them raw. They have put in a special air mattress for her which seems to have helped - I have no idea why!

Good news today!:D

They've taken the dressings off the right heel, it's completely dry. He just has a thick sock on it now. The left heel is still a bit raw, but the raw area is shrinking slowly.

There's a tissue viability specialist coming this afternoon to give them a talk, so CN is going to ask her to look at the heel and advise.

They've also got the MD of the group visiting this afternoon, unannounced till this morning, so they're all scurrying about like mad. Can't see there'll be any problems though. I'll find out tonight.

Hello Hazel,

I'm so pleased to hear that John's heels are healing..he's obviously getting the care he needs..which must make it easier on you.
Hopefully this latest course of antibiotics will also make a difference..
That NH sounds really "on the ball "..and it's so refreshing to hear.

Love Gigi xx

Love,

Well... if you change your mind... I did offer some gloves - and also, come to think of it... I've got my Mum's 2 canes. She was a kindhearted woman, she'd share for a good cause.

Well, they've had the advice from the tissue viability advised.

She's advised Mesitran S ointment

www.mesitran.co.uk

It's 40% honey, which is supposed to have great healing qualities.

He'll still use have the heelcaps they've been using,

www.allevyn.com

then a bandage to keep them on, then his sheepskin heel protectors. Hopefuly it will work.

Yes,thankfully the CN is very proactive :)D that's for you, Maggie.)

Please forgive me for asking, but what causes this heel condition.

Dee has very dry skin, so I treat her ankles and feet every morning with a gel from the GP. Just wondering if this heel problem is something I ought to look out for,

Do hope John and your tooth are better.

Love,

Cliff, John's were caused by rubbing the backs of his heels up and down in bed.

They came up in the most enormous blisters the size of a small orange, which then became raw sores. The one on the right heel has healed copletely, but the other one became infected, and is taking a lot longer.

You're right to massage Dee's feet, I can only guess that they must have been itchy for John to rub his so badly.

Love,

Just checked back -- it was 23 Dec. that I first posted about John's heels, so it's already taken two months. It feels like longer!

Could they stop you no way! unless you stop yourself form expressing it .

let the CN do most of the talking like you say , then just say that you would like to add your views also , they do like the partner / carer to add they view also .

it just show to them your taking an active part in your husband caring .

I feel wonderful tonight!:)

CN rang the GP to ask him to prescribe the new ointment, and he agreed, so John will start it tomorrow.

Then, as it was our own GP, CN spoke to him about John, and managed to convince him that John is not as bad as he thought. He's going to come for a review with CN and me after John has finished his current meds.

Later I asked CN about the music therapy programme,

http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/talkingpoint/discuss/showpost.php?p=121363&postcount=12,

And got an invitation to join their training session tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to that!

Tonight I feel great!:):):)

Love to all,

YIPPEE!

NICE ONE, HAZEL!

Are you going to pop into that Larder-***-Garage and extract a nice bottle of red wine? Good for you! And you are celebrating tonight.
