Now that the term 'EMI' is no longer being used, how do I know which care homes will take someone with behavioural issues? I seem to be wasting a lot of time visiting homes which advertise themselves as specialising in dementia, only to later discover that they won't take someone in the aggressive phase. So how do I know which care homes to approach? And why are they picking and choosing anyway?

I've set it to 'challenging behaviour' but you can change this to a different filter, you can also specify a country.
In theory the LA should provide you with a list of suitable homes even if you are self funding but I would not count on this being very useful.

When I was looking for a nursing home that could deal with challenging behaviour I found quite a few. After visiting two that did take challenging behaviour but it was infact for adults with learning difficulties, though this was not mentioned on their site. I then started to telephone the others before putting them on my list and avoiding wasting valuable time.
I found just two homes in our county that accepted challenging behaviour caused by dementia. Luckily one was just 10 minutes drive away from our home and is an exceptionally good nursing home.
