Ha ha I bet my dad knows him. He knows everyone else especially if they are on TV He would have worked with him somewhere, probably an old ship mate.

@Duggies-girl ..Dya know I’ve noticed this lately with quite a few stories ,places ,people that husband knows or remembers. He actually has done many things in the past and is ((was)) very knowledgable. So maybe I’m doing him an injustice :):) although some stories are simply outrageous :p:p

Gosh that all seems so long ago, but only 5 years. My husband was a writer and painter, incredibly creative.
And he couldn’t remember his date of birth.
I keep testing myself now, subtracting 7 from 100 down. Checking I can remember where I put things.
I can’t imagine how the person with dementia really feels, it must be scary. No wonder they deny the problem.
I think my husband is aware sometimes now he has lost everything and cries. Words cannot describe where he’s going.

We are discussing the 30Q MMSE Test, which contains a name and address to remember. I’d think a different name and address are used in your country.
Thank you for the info. I googled him.

No one is ever asked in a memory test about where a politician lives. They will ask who the Primie Minister of Australia is and given the number we have had in the last few years, I wouldn't be surprised if a PWD got it wrong.

They give the name of a fictitious person and a fake address, possibly a more neutral take on things, and the person is asked to recall it.

I have just completed a series of cognitive tests for a major study and not only were they demanding, but downright exhausting.
Thanks.

Well, i believe the testing asks the same questions over and over as there must be consistency. To show progression and measurability. Eventually, our loved ones no longer pass the tests no matter how high functioning they previously were...
but it is frustrating in that they often are more “together” when with doctors and professionals,it is true. Sadly, that to will pass.

I don't know WHO Harry Barnes is either, but the people at the memory clinic seem to think that if they tell my OH where this guy lives often enough, he will remember the address, and after 6 years, HE DOES.

73 Orchard Close, Kingsbridge, Devon !! I have just looked on Google Maps and he has a lovely house !!!

Strange, a Streetview search on the address does not include that one

Putting 73 Orchard Close, Kingsbridge, Devon into Google gives a postcode of TQ7 2HP and searching on the post code in Streetview goes to the Kingsbridge map.

Well I’m not sure the test stop at a few questions like Where Harry Barnes Lives there are far more completed tests taken over a 2 to 2½hours with a Psychologist for example the Psychologist would read a story for instance about a Fire , the person being tested is given a full A4 sheet of paper containing rows and rows of the letter E hidden randomly within are lettersF The Story starts and every time the patient hears the word “Fire” they should put a "tick" at top of page for instance fire-engine "tick" fireman "tick" and so on this would probably take 15 minutes to complete and requires good concentration obviously the amount of "ticks" depends on who may time the word Fire was said , remember there are different stages of dementia not everyone is at the same level some dementia diagnosis need more tests than others

Oh for crying out loud!! I have a research degree but would not be able to pass these memory tests. Interesting side light - many years ago I did an education diploma and on our first day, we had to take all the IQ tests to see how it felt. I looked around the room, most people were cheating ...

My Dad is profoundly deaf so doing any test on him proves very difficult. He wouldnt even hear the name Harry Barnes in the first place let alone know where he lived

One test I had to do recently was extremely hard because it had been designed to distract you. Printed on a page were a lot of words printed in various colours and you just had to say what the colour was, not the word. The first two like that were fairly straightforward but the last one was so hard. The words were just the names of the colours , red, blue, yellow and green but were printed in different colours to what the word was.

So the word red could be printed in any colour except red. So hard not to get hooked on what the word was instead of the colour.

There was also a dot to dot, simple enough except that as well as alternating numerically and alphabetically, the whole page was covered with the dots. Having to search through all the dots made it harder to remember what number or letter you were up to.

Having done all these tests, I look at the tests my OH does at the specialist's and it makes me appreciate their value. OH has always done well but the last time he could only remember three of the five word he was asked to recall. So how does he remember what cards have played during his beloved bridge game?
