When is Memory loss not classed as dementia??

Sorry I haven't been online for some time, been busy pushing for answers and still not getting anywhere.

My Husband suffers with losing his memory on a daily basis. When he been asleep he wakes up not remembering the last 2.5 years....

Neurological Physcometric testing completed twice and still the same results, no dementia!!! However Memory Clinic Specialist initially stated that he had Vascular Dementia and on the second visit (after another 6 months of his long term memory seemed to have disappeared) the same Specialist stated that the decline was showing more like Alzheimers!!! I am so confused.

Tomorrow going to Papworth for overnight stay to they can actually see what happens when he sleeps. Hopefully will get some answers but not holding my breath.

I am so scared but still being strong for my family. Struggling to hold things together as not sleeping well myself due to crying in my sleep. Got to keep going.

Does he suffer from epilepsy and/or migraine?
There is a condition called Transient Epileptic Amnesia in which there is temporary loss of memory usually on waking.

Hospital sleepover showed that he holds his breath more than 30 times an hour and therefore are going to try sleep apnea treatment and maybe this might help his memory. Nothing picked up on his brain activity. Let's just see if this helps....

It's a struggle to get a diagnosis of anything affecting the brain. My husband was treated for depression for a year before a scan diagnosed brain shrinkage.

I hope tomorrow sheds some light on your husbands difficulties.
