When a doctor is making a diagnosis of dementia they are aware of things that could mimic it, that why they do tests like blood tests and physical tests too. The neurologist will neither dismiss your fears, nor be so caught up in them that he will fail to consider other things. From the initial testing the doctor may possibly decide that your symptoms sound much more like something else and will look in that direction. The MRI will also show much more about what is happening in the brain. There may be results that are typical of some form of dementia, but it may also show no signs typical of dementia, in which case the doctor will think again.
