What is "Carers Allowance"?

I've been reading through the post, and when I came across one that mentioned "Carers Allowance" it peeked my interest. I can only guess that the UK will pay some type of allowance to the care givers? Or have I got it all wrong?

I also saw where the AD patient was getting DLA, which I'm guessing is the same thing as SSI in the US. SSI is a disability check from Social Security that you can get if you're under retirement age.

But back to the Carers Allowance, if that does pay the care giver for taking care of the suffer, I sure wish we had that in the states.

Can anyone explain exactly what that is.

Thanks

Brucie,

I don't assume anythng is easier anywhere! It's just that when I was reading a few post and saw that some where the gov. realized the strain on the care givers and was helping out I thought how fantastic.

Nada, I've been all over the web sites here in the US, have been in touch with my local Alzhiemers Chapter and with the Socical Security Offices.

I know that what ever info I find on this site is for the UK.
