What does end of life care mean

My mum is being assessed tomorrow to see if she is end of life. Two hospital admissions two care homes and covid have taken their toll.

She's not eating but taking some fluids. In bed. Sometimes lucid.

Not seen her since the end of September. Not really spoken since early October. Deterioration has been immense since mid June when she was living alone.

Feeling overwhelmed and so so sad. Can anyone explain what end of life care will involve?

Many thanks

I was allowed a visit today as my mum is now deemed end of life. She didn't look in any pain. Grasped my hands. Looking like she wanted to speak but couldn't. Obviously lost a lot of weight. Home called district nurse this afternoon who advised to stop food and water due to fear of choking. Feeling heartbroken. Such a sharp decline since mid June. At least I've had the chance to say goodbye. Thinking of everyone in a similar situation.

Thank you. Mum deteriorated very quickly and passed away this morning peacefully. I'm in bits but trying to think of the happier times.
