I'm a policy officer at the Society. We have been asked to test out a draft publication that supports older people who are going into hospital, by providing information and advice. The guide is produced by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE)

The main purpose of the guide is to reassure people and help them plan their future care, and regain independence. The guide is not condition specific and therefore does not address clinical issues. It could be used either by people with dementia going into hospitals or their carers who are supporting them before, during and after a hospital visit. SCIE want to make sure it is helpful.

We are looking for people with dementia who will be going into hospital in the next three months (May – July), who (themselves or their carers) would be willing to use the guide and report back on how they used it and whether it was useful.

SCIE will revise their booklet based on the feedback they receive. It will then be available to older people going into hospital.

Please reply to this message or contact Guy Dominy on 0207 7306 0606
Or GDominy@alzheimers.org.uk if you would be interested in taking part in this research and would like more details.

If we cannot recruit sufficient numbers of people who are going into hospital, we shall also be looking for people who have recently gone to hospital and asking them to review the usefulness of the guide.
