Viewing hospital notes whilst an in-patient

Quick query. I've previously obtained copies of Mum's hospital notes via a data access request (after she had been discharged) but does anyone know what the situation is in relation to viewing the current notes whilst Mum is an in-patient? I'm referring to the doctor's notes rather than the general care notes kept at the end of the bed. I have H&W POA and just wanted to take a look at the doctor's notes (rather than copy them) to confirm the dates of OT & physio assessments etc. Has anyone done this? Were there any objections?

Thanks.

I’ve found it depends on the staff on duty. It’s worth trying to get one of the more senior members of nursing staff onside.

Under the data protection act, legally, they only have to provide notes with the patients or LPA consent after a data request, payment of an admin fee and within a specified time.

Good luck.
