Aunt is to have a general anaesthetic this week whilst having her remaining teeth removed. In Jo's recent posting (not a very Merry Christmas) she mentioned the risk of accelerating the dementia.

Any experience anyone?

Please, please don't worry. The level of anaesthetic, and the minutes she will be 'under' surely won't hurt.
If you've got any doubts, contact the dentist, and her GP, and ask about the possible repercussions, but teeth can be taken out rapidly, and since the dentist knows about dementia, he or she will give the minimum knock out, and this shouldn't cause any major problem.
Trust the dentist.
The effect of the anaesthetic will be far less than the effect of the major gingival streptococcal infection she's fighting against now, day to day, which will be wearing her out.
Keep the faith.
OK?
All the best.

Dear Kriss, yes, Beej is right, the level will not be as deep as for general surgery, and it will be better than the on going infection wearing her down. Try not to worry. Love She. XX

Just phoned the home to check how it went and it seems she had just finished off her tea - and seemed quite happy to have had a day out.

The day something makes her lose her appetite will signal a major downturn!

thanks all!

Dear Kriss

What a blessed relief for you and your aunt. The end result has raised a smile here. So glad she enjoyed her 'day out'! Now, perhaps given Aunt's experience, I will take my cowardly self to the dentist to have this troublesome tooth sorted, for shame's sake.

Love
