"Having supported family members I know how talking about relationships can be hard so normalising language and clear discussion in the factsheets is a good starting point for people."
- Carer for a person living with dementia

Everyone experiences the challenges of dementia in their own individual way. Being LGBTQ+ and having dementia can bring other additional challenges. It can help to be aware of and prepared for these issues.

Our Publishing team have recently updated their LGBTQ+ resources for LGBTQ+ people living with dementia and their carers.
  • LGBTQ+: Living with dementia (booklet 1511) has information and advice about how to live well with dementia. It also includes guidance on getting the right emotional and practical support, and planning for the future.

  • Supporting an LGBTQ+ person with dementia (factsheet 480) is for carers. It looks at a person’s life history, relationships, environment and support. It gives advice about how to support the person to be themselves, and helpful information on how the carer can look after themself.
What’s new?

Both publications feature:
  • additional information on reminiscence
  • more information about accessing services and care settings
  • more accessible and inclusive language, including expanded definitions and examples
