'Thinking' out loud ?

Hi everyone. I have been quiet for a while, there's been no change with my mother and no progress on the respite care / housing front, but I would like to ask if anyone out there has experienced something similar.

Mum (82) was diagnosed with AD around five years ago, but had been having symptoms for a year or so. About eight weeks ago I noticed that she has started thinking out loud (I wouldn't really call it talking to herself) and in a much more articulate way than previously. Some of her thoughts are however particularly disturbed / disturbing and very anti my Dad who is her carer (and himself 86). The only really good thing is that my Dad is pretty deaf and can't really understand what she's saying.

Is this just a phase? Is it best to ignore what she's saying? As I mentioned, she really does seem to be thinking out loud.

Thinking out loud

Hi Suzy. Lionel 'thinks' ut loud all the time. He is only 63, but the bst conversations are those he has with himself. He has great speach difficulity, but manages to articulate to himself. I always assume this is because he does not feel under pressure.

I'eveasdrop' in on this conversation, just to keep up to date on his thinking.
Keep smiling, Connnie

Hi Suzy, yes, my Mum did that for quite a while early on too. She took umbrage at the specialist because he said she aught not to live alone any more. Every night once she was living with us, she had a real old go at him, the air was blue! But at least it was at him not us!! Later, it was how she was going home in the morning etc, 'course, come the morning she'd forgotten. Love She. XX

Dear Suzy,

My mother does this a lot too, especially when she is trying to find the bedroom or the bathroom or is alone in a room for a short time. It seems to be a form of reassurance for her.

Thanks Connie, Sheila and Jude...

I look forward to my visit to the UK on Friday to see what comes up next! Last time was an eye-opener.

Suzy.
