please share how ....

It's now on the post added it while you were posting.

You may have seen other attempts with limited success or just a full stop, I've been trying various things and deleting failures, some worked but were too complicated, then the obvious hit me, the http or https:// tells the system what to do, without it unfurl="TRUE"] is not added and the link still opens.

How about doing https://forum.alzheimers.org.uk/threads/the-test-thread.104336/post-1697608 this?

It works. @Shedrech

From XF manual

When a URL is inserted into content and that URL exists on its own line within the content, we will "unfurl" it to a richer preview which includes the page title, metadata logo, description and favicon. Such rich previews add more context for users as to what the link contains. URL unfurling can be used anywhere that accepts BB code currently.

The functionality is enabled by default, but you can switch it off if you want to in the "Messages" section of the Admin CP.

I think I am a bear of very little brain as I do not understand this at all..............

I just know that I cant post pictures, or third party emojies (I know that wont worry you Nitram!) and when I try to post a link to Compassionate Communication I also get the first lines of the thread. No matter, though - people will still be able to read the thread.

@canary

Probably not the compassionate Communication thread you are referring to. problem is search defaults to old thread in archive in tea room, will still do for demonstration.
You get

and you want https://forum.alzheimers.org.uk/threads/compassionate-communication.33219/post-450654 .
I've covered this in my ravings earlier in this thread, it's all to do with a default setting of unfurling to give a richer format.

Easiest solution is to force the link out of an isolated line by appending 'space full stop' after it.
If you look carefully you will see this in the above example.

Have a go on this thread.

The trouble is that I have absolutely no idea what this means.
I have tried to follow your instruction in this thread, but none of it means anything to me. I think I will give up and just write prose
