mum has yet another UTI, as yet undiagnosed but nurse highly suspects
mum has been on a catheter for urine output since hospitalisation back in oct/nov

nurse reports, oral fluid intake sufficient, but urine output today only 50 mls
catheter replaced, and other things re catheter that I cant remember
nurse, hospital? me "no"
I already have palliative care only in place
normal doctor unavailable so locum coming in this evening
would a UTI cause low urine output even with a catheter?
given that fluid intake orally is ok?
ok we are not doctors, but anyone had similiar?
awaiting sound advice,
Jo

Sorry Jo, it`s outside my experience, so no advice to offer. Only sympathy, and hope that someone will soon be able to help.
Love xx

Hello Jo,

I'm no doctor but usually if oral fluid intake is adequate and urine output diminishes it's an indication that the kidneys aren't working properly..

It does sound as if your mum is already in a fragile state..so it's important to get the doctor's view on this..

Let us know how things are..

Wishing you and your mum well..

Love Gigi xx

HI Jo

Gigi is right in saying that the kidney function may be suspect. Another cause if your Mum has an infection is that oral hydration, whilst looking sufficient, may not be adequate if she is feverish and sweating a great deal (oops or should I say perspiring or even glowing!)

Sorry to read this Jo.

Hope you get some advice soon.

Please let us know how things continue.....'twas your title that caught my eye
the bane of their lives.. UTI

Whilst this may not be the case with your dear mum this time, it does seem to feature so largely with a lot of people.

Fingers crossed for mum.
