i’m wondering what carers are doing for themselves this christmas to bring a bit of joy, relaxation or christmas spirit?

this year will be small for me:
  • lemon lime and bitters with gin and kiwi fruit…. it’s my christmas cocktail!
  • mini pavlovas, soy ice cream, kiwi, pineapple and strawberries
  • i might cook up a batch of my famous curry sauce, but if i get lazy there’s one in the freezer
  • Death in Paradise on BBC First…. day and night… what could be more relaxing?
ideas for the kids
i don’t actually have kids, but used the above activities for a work christmas party on zoom, and i’ll tell you now making pom poms during meetings is very zen!

hope you all survive the holiday season, please share any special ways you are treating yourself so we can inspire eachother.

Lovely origami santas @lushr. Enjoy your cocktails.
I'm looking forward to the Pavarotti movie on Saturday night and a walk with friends on Sunday.

Having three Christmas. Last week with my god daughters,
today with my pwd ( my dad) along with his new carer who’s very good with him but does want to talk about everything that’s declining/going wrong with him and likel to go wrong next ( hoists and mobility stuff) and is from abroad , so Christmas dinner may be a bit of an odd occasion - I’ve bought the usual stuff but not sure how cooking it will go. Did a Tesco’s meal for 2 last Christmas (just me and dad) but his mobility and dementia are much worse now ☹️
And new year I’ll catch up with my partner….

I am having my first Christmas alone in 30 years and at the moment feeling quite relaxed about it.
My husband had mixed dementia and cancer. He died 7 weeks ago today.
Tonight I drank Baileys and watched The Holiday. I have to say that I enjoyed not having to answer endless questions and miss most of the film by running around after him.

I have some wonderful friends and neighbours and have today declined three offers of Christmas dinner tomorrow. Having said that one friend came round for a drink tonight and brought me some delicious home made cake And I shall be going for pre lunch bubbly with a neighbour.

I felt that I didn’t want to socialise too much and if I get upset tomorrow I would prefer to cry by myself.

@CAL Y sorry for your loss… it sounds like you have plenty of offers if you suddenly want company so that’s something

i guess i could ask a friend to meet me later this week, if i really want company but i don’t want to depress her because really i just want to unload all the reasons i’m not really happy this year. and my worries for next year…

ive started watching Paddington which my friends have all said is a treat, but i’m finding it a bit scary… i might have to switch to Tim Allen movies…
