Hi,
Just got mum home from hospital after she became dehydrated after not eating or drinking. She has deteriorated a little.
She still knows who me and my brother are so we are grateful for that.
She is chewing her fluoxetine capsules and her Donepezil. This is making her physically sick. She used to chew them before she went into hospital but was fine with it.
Do you know if these meds come in liquid form? Or any suggestions on how i can get them past her gag reflex please.
Thanks
Jim

Bury
As has been suggested you could try hiding them in jam or yoghurt, she may however still separate and crush them

Both are available in liquid form and orodispersible

Donepezil
Orodispersible

Oral solution

Fluoxetine
Orodispersible

https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/5358/smpc .
Oral solution

They may not be available in the correct strength or there may be other reasons why they are unsuitable, talk it over with her GP

Pharmacists should be able to advise about different types of medication - e.g. liquid. We use covert medication administration for my Mum, in a care home. Her meds are either given in a liquid form, mixed in with juice or crushed into food.

Its a problem, for instance, today she just doesn't want food. I managed to get her to eat a small slice of cake. She is having the fortisips though.
Been trying to call the GP most of today but the line is busy.

I have had a look but cant see any problems, I was told to phone the GP back tomorrow because the telephone appointments were full for today.
