Tablet Change

Hi All,

Had a letter from mum's doctor saying that they are changing her prescription from Galantamine 16mg to Gatalin 16mg. The new medication has the same active ingredient, will have the same benefits as Galantamine, but is provided at a lower cost to the NHS.
Just wondered if anyone else has had to change tablets.
Love Sonia xxx

It's pretty common to make a change like this, after 10 to 20 years the exclusive licence on a medicine expires and generic copies come out usually much cheaper, a common swap is Aricept to Donepezil, Aricept was expensive and so a lot of people didn't get prescribed it, now it's much cheaper everyone seems to. We did have a discussion about this and it appears some people reacted badly to the change as although the active ingredients are the same the colourings and bulking agents aren't and so some had to swap back.
