My OH and many others living with Alzheimer's 'and similar diseases' often say how much they hate the word DEMENTIA. So I've come up with a new word SYNAPSESLAPSES. it just seems to roll off the tongue And makes us and our friends laugh.

We used to have Freda come and stay. Freda used to wear mums dresses and sit in her chair. Freda used to say the foulest of things, which Mum never did.

In fact 'Freda' was almost a code word- If I said to the visiting district nurse/Dr/Carer That Freda was here, they knew just what I meant- and it could be said in front of mum because she really thought Freda existed- she saw her sometimes out of the window ( which was a mirror)

''Have you seen Freda today'' came to mean ''how is her behaviour today''

Its whatever gets you through the day
