My husband has had alzhiemers now for 9 years, was in early 50s, has been home for that time but has just gone to nursing home last 2 months. But what we have is he cant look at himself in mirrors or his reflection, because he doesnt know who it is, and get very angry and start swearing and hitting, has anyone seen this b4? because no one has here. It is so upsetting to see him like this. Regards Isabelle

    Hi Isabelle

My Mum went through a phase of seeing her reflection as someone else. Sometimes the "other person" was friendly, but more often she saw the reflection as someone threatening, and she would shout at, and abuse, her reflection. She has certainly passed that phase now, but it lasted for at least a year.

    Take care,
    Claire

    Hi Claire and Isabelle
My Mum went through exactly the same phase, and would touch and hit the mirror depending on whether she saw the person there as friendly or otherwise. She broke the big mirror in Dad's hallway, and we took down the others before they met a similar fate.
