Still Waiting For Doc

I went to see dads GP on 17th January who told me he would refer dad to the hospital and that dad would be visited at his home. I was told I would hear something within 2 weeks. The GP did not send the letter until approx 7th February. I have still not heard anything. I have rang the hospital and spoke to the secretary who says it could be a while before I hear anything as the doctor is very busy. I appreciate that the doctor is busy but how long do I have to wait until someone contacts me. I would like to know of anybody else who has had this problem.

Many Thanks
Cath

They are all very slow aren`t they?
I`m waiting for a so called `urgent` appointment for my husband. He saw the doctor on 19th. Feb. I`ll let you know when I hear.
If you don`t hear by the end of Feb. I`d phone again and as how long two weeks is supposed to be.

Hi Cath

I had a similar problem, I cried for help with my Dad to the doctor at much the same time as you and after a catalogue of disasters and many phone calls to the surgery just trying to get my Dad to actually see the right doctor, have only just received the appointment for Dad to go to the memory clinic at the local hospital. Sadly as he's now under observation in a care home for a couple of weeks I've got to rearrange the appointment and have no idea how long it's going to be before I get another one.

I've had similar experiences with other referrals for Dad and occasionally have had to wait several months before I hear anything. The wheels seem to move extremely slowly and I'm not sure what the answer is.

I can imagine your frustration. Unitl you get some sort of a diagnosis, you can't set any wheels in motion!

My problems began when the doctor referred Ken to the wrong specialist. This was because Ken was under the age of 65 at the time. After a wait of about 8 weeks, I finally got an appointment for the Elderly Consultant, who then passed us on to a Neurological Consultant for further tests. Finally about 3 months later, we got the diagnosis of Lewy Body Disease. Yes I could then start putting wheels in motion, but it was a bitter blow to get this diagnosis, especially as the disease progressed so very quickly from then on.
