Stigma and dementia

As part of World Alzheimer's Month this September, we’re challenging the stigma around dementia and the stereotypes and myths that surround it.

Some carers have had to deal with rude comments or stares while out in public with their loved one. Others who are living with dementia have had to listen to unpleasant jokes or thoughtless comments from people who just don't understand the realities of their condition. These reactions might be familiar to you, but nobody should have to deal with ignorance, thoughtlessness and cruelty from the people around them.

Do you have experience of this?

Our Digital team are looking for quotes from people who have experienced stigma because of their dementia experience (whether you care for someone, are living with a diagnosis, or are a family member or friend), as part of an upcoming blog post.

The deadline is Friday 13 September so please feel free to add your comments below before then, and they may be included as quotes in the blog post. If you'd prefer to share them via email, you can email us at talkingpoint@alzheimers.org.uk

Thanks :)
