hi everyone, this is the 1st time i have used this site and my enquiry is on behalf of my nana. her husband (my granda) has alzheimers pretty bad now and each day is harder and harder and to top things off he had a heart attack this time last week. because he was in hospital for 5 days (it would of been longer if he hadnt had alzheimers of course)it has turned everything upside down.

At the moment my granda does go to a day centre on a monday and a tuesday and nana has asked if he can go more than this and they said no. Does anyone know if we can pay for him to go to the day centre or a day centre more than 2 days??

Hi Surtees.

I think the problem with that is that there is often a waiting list for day centre, particularly if they are dementia specific.

The best way to get an answer is to speak to the day centre manager and ask if they take day referrals. You should also check the cost, too, as the centres probably have a contract with the LA, and may charge you much more, even if they have places.

Please let us know how you get on, because I'll be interested.

Good luck,
