My mum has lost a stone in weight as she isn’t eating much these days and she says she just wants to sleep all the time. She is really slow now too and has difficulty walking. We have noticed a decline in the last 2 weeks and she says she’s had enough. She’s 83 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s before Xmas. Is it normal to sleep so much and not wanting to eat when you have this condition?

It is certainly very common in the last stage of dementia (which can go on for quite a while), but it might be a good idea to contact the GP in case there is something else, like an infection, going on.

Wishing you patience and light. Body and brain suffers and tires very fast. And needs much more time to recover
